DEBA Mentoring Program

DEBA – Law Day May 5th 2017 – Douglas County Courthouse

Dear DEBA Members, May Law Day is upon us, and it is that time of year again for us to recognize and congratulate those members of DEBA who excel and are making outstanding contributions to our local legal community.

The May Law day topic this year is: The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy.

The 2017 theme provides the opportunity to explore the many ways that the Fourteenth Amendment has reshaped American law and society. Through its Citizenship, Due Process and Equal Protection clauses, this transformative amendment advanced the rights of all Americans. It also played a pivotal role in extending the reach of the Bill of Rights to the states. Ratified during Reconstruction a century and a half ago, the Fourteenth Amendment serves as the cornerstone of landmark civil rights legislation, the foundation for numerous federal court decisions protecting fundamental rights, and a source of inspiration for all those who advocate for equal justice under law.

Our annual awards will be presented at Law Day, which will be on May 5, 2017  at Noon.

Please submit all nominations to Helen M. Hoopes at helen.hoopes@coloradodefenders.us by April 20, 2017 for the following annual awards, which will be presented at Law Day: Volunteer, Professionalism, Military and Young Lawyer (in practice 5 years of less, or under the age of 39). DEBA will be accepting nominations for DEBA’s 2017-2018 Treasurer.  If you would like to nominate someone or yourself for DEBA’s 2017-2018 Treasurer, please submit a professional biography including a brief statement explaining why you would like to be the 2017-2018 Treasurer.  Please submit all nominations to Helen M.
